Methodology

Study period: January 8 – May 22, 2026. 1,200 mystery-shopper calls across 25 states (California, Texas, and Florida oversampled for statistical depth). 18 trained mystery shoppers (9 male, 9 female; ages 28–55) requested quotes for the same standardized scenario: a 2021 Toyota RAV4 with 45,000 miles, 35-year-old driver with a clean record, $100K/$300K/$100K liability, $500 collision deductible, comprehensive, and 12,000 annual miles.

"Time to quote" is measured from first ring (or first form field) to receipt of a numeric premium the shopper could bind on. Calls exceeding 20 minutes were recorded as non-completions and excluded from averages. Timing used synchronized stopwatches (±2 second accuracy).

Limitations: calls were placed 9am–5pm weekdays; mystery shoppers were native English speakers with neutral regional accents; data reflects carrier phone systems as of May 2026; this study covered auto insurance only.
